ABSTRACT
Concurrent Engineering (CE) frameworks, the CALS/CITIS requirements and the PDES initiative of promulgating STEP share common goals. This paper emphasizes and punctuates the importance of the CITIS-CE-STEP linkage. The role of a Shared Information Model as a central component of a CITIS and a CE framework also is highlighted. In addition, it is emphasized that STEP application protocols underpin the shared information models necessary for Concurrent Engineering (CE) environments and CITIS systems.
