RESOLUTION 81-17
RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE CONTINUED FUNDING OF THE
ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT ADMINISTRATION
WHEREAS: Indian Tribes are responsible for the social,
educational, and economic development of their tribal
members, and
WHEREAS: the Economic Development Administration has been a
strong contributing factor in improving the economic
conditions of the Northwest Indian Tribes through investment
of public monies in public works projects and other
economic development and adjustment projects; business
development loans to generate and retain private sector
employment opportunities research, evaluation and
demonstration projects designed to foster tribal
productivity and growth; and
WHEREAS: these efforts by the Economic Development
Administration have benefited the unemployed and
underemployed Indian people within the northwest region; and
WHEREAS: President Reagan is requesting that the Economic
Development Administration be completely terminated by
Fiscal Year 1982;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: that the Affiliated Tribes of
Northwest Indians request the President, Congress and the
Administration to continue funding the Economic Development
Administration and its related programs.
CERTIFICATION
The forgoing resolution has been adopted at the special
meeting of the Executive Council of the Affiliated Tribes of
Northwest Indians May 26, 1981 at the Sheraton Hotel,
Spokane, Washington.
