Introduction

Basic English for Adults is a series of books that seeks to satisfy the need to learn English. It introduces English language using a limited vocabulary that provides the basic material for elementary conversation in everyday situations.

This book is the first one of the series. It deals with situations like greetings, telling the times of the day, introducing oneself to others, and discussing the family and the home.

In later books in the series we will discuss situations as shopping, visiting the clinic, the bank and using telephone.

Visual perception skills are an important aspect in learning to read and write. Therefore, most of the teaching and learning experiences use pictures that are relevant to adult’s environment. The book uses a lot of speaking, listening, reading and writing exercises that are aimed at stimulating the learners’ interest as well as meeting their basic English needs.
